Fol­low­ing on from 008, Synkro’s ‘Look at Your­self’ EP, Mind­set are proud to intro­duce yet another debut 12″ for new­comer Troy Gun­ner. A young pro­ducer from the out­skirts of Bath UK, still in his teenage years and with a keen ear and rich palette of sounds, all field recorded and imple­mented into his work, cre­at­ing pure tex­tures and a unique sonic col­lage. What stands out for us are his unique infec­tious melodies and vocal manipulation.

‘Fool’s Gold’ opens the 12 with sparse 2-step rhythms, heavy swing and lush chords spread across the stereo field. The melodic hook gets you every time and the use of tech­ni­cal edits and cuts gives it a char­ac­ter that is hard to match. Dri­ving for­ward with a very inter­est­ing arrange­ment, stop­ping and start­ing — keep­ing you on your toes but never los­ing the pulse.

‘Head in Hands’ is a sub­dued, triplet infested syn­co­pa­tion work­out. Still enough to cut it in the club, but hold­ing its own for the lis­ten at home, it oozes pas­sion. Slid­ing pads and glitched out beats whisk you away into a dreamy, spaced out state. This one gives the feel­ing of loung­ing on a cloud of smoke float­ing through space — one for the astral travelers.

‘Danc­ing in the Leaves’ picks the pace back up as a chilled roller, with a drop that will make you weak at the knees. Falling to noth­ing but the pad and sub bass, with a twin­kling melody to accom­pany. Mov­ing with dance floor shuf­fle and a grad­ual pro­gres­sion, but with a calm­ness and groove to get locked into. Beau­ti­fully crafted and burst­ing at the seams with pos­i­tive energy, to take you on a vibes rollercoaster!

After vinyl debuts from Indigo, xxxy, AnD, Kow­ton, Hatti Vatti & HxdB the Mind­set ros­ter is rep­re­sent­ing a cor­ner of the scene which is gain­ing head­way at a con­tin­u­ous rate.
